Space Between the Words partners with Headway to support taking over 45 different insurance plans as in-network providers, including Carelon, Aetna, IBX, Quest, United Health and Cigna. You can learn more about Headway’s insurance coverage on their website.
If you have an insurance policy with a company not listed, you may be able to get reimbursed by submitting your claims via a service called Mentaya. In addition, we can provide clients with a Superbill that will provide the coding for you to submit on your own to insurance to use towards your deductible, your HSA, or for possible reimbursement.
We also offer self-pay options at the rate of $150/session. In some cases, clients prefer to not claim their therapy costs through insurance for privacy and confidentiality reasons.
You feel stuck and no matter how much you have tried to change your life, nothing is working well enough. You feel unheard or unseen and need to know if your version of the world is accurate without arguing with family about the past.
No, in fact this level of therapy is not for crisis. Outpatient therapy is typically once per week for up to one hour.
We will start by building a therapeutic relationship where you can trust us. We can also talk about how those problems/feelings are affecting the rest of your life and what you might like to change. We don’t jump in the deep end in the first session. Trauma carries too much shame for that approach to last more than one session.
Our job is to ask questions to go where we need to go. We don’t need you to name symptoms or have a degree in psychology to get help from us. So many people have said this same thing and then talked the entire session, almost going over. It’s normal and not a problem to overcome.
Hey, if you cry then I might be doing something right. But you also don’t have to cry. Any emotion is acceptable in session. My goal is to make sure you can get back to manageable by the end of the session. Again, that’s my job to help you reregulate or suggest other ways to get there/teach skills.
Absolutely, finding a therapist sucks sometimes. They can be amazing, okay, or completely the wrong fit. I would rather not deal with copays and know we click so you can be confident that a therapeutic relationship can form.
You can ask me whatever you want. I probably won’t answer many personal questions. You can ask about my experience, education, training, or anything that makes you confident you found the right therapist. Most of the time, people tell me a little about themselves and I see what of my knowledge seems to apply. Usually it is my questions to you that can be more important.
We offer very limited evenings and no weekends. Typically with the use of virtual visits, we can see people anytime of day before work, around lunch, after work, or if you want to talk to HR therapy is typically protected under the ADA or FMLA. (Consult your own lawyer for proper advice on that).
We have openings weekly right now and can typically schedule someone this week or next depending on who you’d like to work with and when you call/email.
Through a HIPAA compliant Zoom online.
$150 or depending on your insurance, the copay explained in the EOB of your plan.
We do accept insurance and in some cases offer a lower fee. We also currently offer a free DBT group.
Yes, we work with Mentaya to do out-of-network billing.
Credit Cards/Debit Cards/HSA/FSA are all accepted and usually billed after the session.
Typically we need the insurance card and a few basic documents to sign like consent to treatment, informed consent, consent to digital communication, consent to telehealth, and a form of payment.
The first session will be scheduled between us and each following session will be scheduled by the end of each session if not a recurring slot weekly or biweekly, whatever works.
Reach out to us through email or phone and we can help with that.
Weekly or Biweekly tend to work best.
45min to 1hr. Typically 1 hr which billing wise is 53min+.
We get to know each other and start to understand goals and barriers. We build rapport so future sessions can feel more fluid.
Depends on your comfortability. Some of the information is important. Other parts can wait until you are comfortable. I will mention if I think something is important even if we aren’t going to talk about it just yet.
I don’t know if anyone can answer that question. A solid year of therapy will make a decent change for most people. Some come for less and some for more.
Not with me, unless you tell me something is your goal and keep not making any progress toward it. Then we might break things down into smaller and more manageable steps.
Frequency, intensity, and duration. Does the bad stuff happen less, become easier to manage, and last less time? Does the good stuff happen more often, become more enjoyable, and last longer?
Depends on the person and the session. Some sessions can be great and you can feel a strange high or comfort. Other sessions are tough and emotions can linger or old stuff can open up. If it becomes too much, reach out and we might be able to send support or schedule another session.
Yes, but we can’t do therapy outside of session. If it takes more than 5 minutes it needs to be in therapy.
Short of harm to children or imminent harm to yourself or others, yes. These are the reasons we must break confidentiality. Suicidal ideation alone is not “imminent harm to yourself”, but let us know so we can be sure.
As above: Child abuse, Suicidal or Homicial plans, intent, means, and opportunity.
Depending on the situation, a service like mobile crisis is likely to be called to help support. Sometimes a visit to a crisis center is needed. We want everyone to be safe, and we will work with you to make sure the best options are chosen to meet the need of the situation.
